    MB trac trac's

What your opinion of the the Mercedese MB trac's tractors. would you take it over a fastrac if short of money. Any LTS trac 160 working out there?

    MB trac trac's

Pros.- large quiet roomy cab with good seat and passenger seat combined with front suspension makes long hours easy to endure, smoothe powerful engine-will go forever if looked after, front links easily available, powerful easy to maintain disc brakes, row crop and flotation wheels easy to come by second hand, srecond hand demount sprayers readily available, handy load platform to rear of cab, good rear lift capacity, 30mph with 18t trailer no problem. Cons.- manual gearbox, poor visibility of hitch, smaller dia. wheels than ideal, rear draft sensing linkage wears. Go for 1300 up-very strong build.

    MB trac trac's

Is the turning circle comparable to a fasttrac?
  • Mon, May 13 2002 0:09 In reply to

    MB trac trac's

The turning circle of an MB trac runs rings round the Fast trac.

I have never been in an MB Trac that turned tighter than a 4 wheel steer Fastrac!

And I have never been in a 2 wheel steer Fastrac that turned tighter than an MB trac!

we swapped a MB 1000 (9000hrs trouble free) for a JCB fastrac 1115 and regreted it after a month, go MB every time ! we then swapped the fastrac at 1500hrs for a MB unimog 1600 with 2500hrs for under £3000 to swap, no regrets this time!!

    Fuel usage.

As an example, with my MB trac 1000 I can plow and power-harrow 10 acres on a tankful,30 British gallons, No idea what a Comparatable 100 HP Fastrac would use.

I've got nothing against the Fastrac dirtdigger, Personal preference.

    MB trac gearbox

If you are buying, watch the gearbox. Crude, so liable to be abused. V.expensive to repair. Especially worry if you can make it jump out of reverse. Based on sample size ONE !

    what year?
  • Fri, May 17 2002 15:09 In reply to

    MB trac gearbox

1988 and the problem was found when we bought about 1993. This was an 1100. As I understand MB used the same truck gearboxes right through to the end of manufacture.

I thought they updated the gearboxs in the 1989 models? any good sources of used mb tracs know?
  • Fri, May 24 2002 20:43 In reply to

Yeah but the MB trac will still be turning when the fastrac's buggered up.

    9000 and heavy weight

Does anybody have any ideas about the 9000? See some Swiss ex army ones advertised recently One contractor close to us (Who has a fastrac!) Claims that MB Trac is too heavy and will bog at first chance because of weight. Any comments? Cannot decide weather to buy Unimog, MB Trac or cheap Fastrac. Mostly for roadwork, some field work inc ploughing and silage/hay/baling work
  • Sat, May 25 2002 18:07 In reply to

Is the 9000 an unimog, not familiar with . what are they asking for them, hours etc. every consider the Doppstadt trac, mb trac?
  • Sat, May 25 2002 20:01 In reply to

    9000 and heavy weight

I think you mean MB 900. If you are talking about the ones I have seen, they are the old model(pre 1982). As for MB tracs being heavy, that's rubbish. Our 1000 MB is lighter than a JD 6100, and much lighter tan any Fastrac.
  • Sun, May 26 2002 10:15 In reply to

    9000 and heavy weight

Just out of interest a 2135 4ws Fastrac weighs around 6.25 tons with half tank of fuel, front linkage but no weights.
  • Sun, May 26 2002 22:24 In reply to

    9000 and heavy weight

Also just out of interest an MB trac 1000 weighs around 4.60 tons with full tank of fuel, no front linkage and no weights.

Glenn, the MB must be the lightest thing the Germans ever made!
