    Mccormick CX 105 Tractor

My hour meter and speedometer is not working. I have checked the wireing and fuses to the best of my knowledge and cannot find a problem. Is there someone out there that has any sugestions or help.

Either the pickup (sensor) on the engine or the dash unit. Flick the dash with your finger (tap it) with the engine running. The engine sensor will be easiest to solve. Double check the connections going to the sensor for corrosion (bad connection).

As always wiggle the wiring loom to see if things come back to life?

Is it an extrashift model ? If it is, I'd sell it ASAP ! We had one, it was the biggest pile of ***** I've ever owned. Apart from lot's of different niggly problems, the clutch was very sharp and no end of calibration could sort it out. It was highly dangerous, especially when hitching on impliments etc. If you wanted to go back an inch it would jump back a yard. On steep ground the brakes would vanish after about 5 mins unless you changed direction regularly. This problem was sorted with a mod in the end, though McCormick wouldn't admit there was a problem for a while, even though we knew others who had the same trouble and had the mod fitted.

Tuck, When you describe speedometer I assume you mean engine tachometer. If this is the case then the engine tachometer and hour meter both take their signal from the 'W' Terminal on the alternator. This could be caused by a poor connection, break in this wire, or a faulty alternator (It is usually a yellow wire that is visible from the outside). It could also be caused by simply not having the belts that drive the alternator tight enough (or a broken alternator securing bracket). This is usually noticed by the charging light staying illuminated or taking a extended amount of time to go out.
