Is nothing sacred? A nearby church has asked the congregation to donate toiletries - not fruit or vegetables - to its harvest festival this autumn.
I nearly fell over when my wife told me - another example of declining standards and people losing touch with food, farming and the countryside etc etc.
The minister argues that toiletries easier to distribute, don't decay and are more valuable more than food to those that need them (and means the church won't be lumbered with dozens of "boring" veg such as unwanted marrows etc).
Me? I would rather smell than go hungry - and am firmly of the view that having no fruit and veg (not even tinned) at a harvest festival misses the point.
Anyone know if any other rural clergymen have made similar requests this year?
