On Wednesday last week my wife saw a suspicious car in the lane - a blue imreza or similar with a loud exhaust. She did not get any details and did not report it as we sometimes do get young drivers using the byway. On Friday night our neighbour's stables and an outhouse were broken into, our pig fence energizer was stolen, and two other neighbours had their back fences cut (obviously accessing their back gardens from the field). This was reported to the police on Saturday morning. Another neighbour also told us that someone had driven down their track and turned around in front of their gate on Wednesday night. All this information was report to the police.

Last night we saw the same car in the lane at about 10:30, and I called Surrey police to report it, relaying that we'd had a burglary the previous Friday and this car had been seen. They took the details but guess what, they didn't come out. This morning another neighbour found his van, containing his entire livelihood (he's a farrier) stolen; this was from a barn behing his bungalow. Finally we saw a police-person at about 9:15 today.  I'm so angry that a) the police did sweet fanny adams about the first lot of breakins or the report last night and b) that I was too tierd and too worried about having to do a full day's work to spend the night with the dogs and my gun sitting in wait.
