    Does anybody read the blogs?

I was thinking about blogging about our storm last night and the fact we are approaching 120 days that we have not been able to get into the field, some sort of record I think.  It then dawned on me I don't think many people read the blogs, or at least my blogs, as I was able to get on a page once by accident that showed views and "Agg views" whatever they are and I think the most read blog I had was viewed 6 times.  Seems pointless to be writing them if they are not being read.

I felt the same, but i seem to get a few views and a few comments. I read Yours, Matt naylors and Teslacoils - thats it really.

If we could get them known a bit more it should help. GREAT IDEA.... you click on mine about 10 times, i  will  return the favour and we then think we have more viewings!!! haha. Or just comment on each others!! haha

Re: Does anybody read the blogs?

    I know I don't count, but I read them!!

Seriously though, we really love having you guys blogging on FWiSpace. They give a very different perspective from the forums.

I think there are quite a few things that we can do to make your blogs more visible and give them a boost. If you're interested, I'll give it some thought and come back with some suggestions.

I read the blogs though not every day, I tend to save them up and read whole swathe of posts at once. Keep going KF!  Big Smile

Please keep writing your blog KF, its great to have the perspective from across the water.

I do read the blogs and particularly enjoy yours KF and also Mattys.

I seem to have a lot of hits from mine, but it is linked from my website so I get it viewed from there. I`m not sure that I am in the right place really as I want to use it as a marketing tool for my site and I have to stop myself from blatantly trying to promote. There are also items which I wouldn`t include for this very reason.

Meanwhile, lets keep blogging ~ its good to hear from others in different parts of the UK and the world KF, and to hear of different sectors within agriculture.

Blogs are the best bit. It is nice to see what others are up to, as well as see their pictures of their farms. Saying that, mine is due an update, so I will go and take some pics of the bean drilling this afternoon.

Take the dough and stay real jiggy.
    Uh-huh.

Glasshouse:  All the grains were crazy.  I don't know what to make of it, perhaps mostly it is the traders like the bigger limits as they can make(or lose) more money every day.  In general, I think the Chicago Mercantile has been bad for farmers, and the last few months it has been even worse.  I have issues with people making money off of a crop they never see and may in fact exist only on paper, ever.

Our wheat is thin.  I can't see how it can ever be more than an average crop.  We are probably going to destroy 65 acres and put that to soybeans, it simply isn't there, maybe a 10% stand.  There is alot of thin wheat in our area, I don't know if the entire state has that problem but I suspect it does because we see more and more stories in farm papers about what to do with thin stands of wheat.  Some of the wheat has heaved out of the ground, and it is far behind average in development, had our weather straightened out a month ago I believe it might have caught up, now I think our harvest will be late, maybe 20 days late.  I don't know if these factors are in this wheat market or not.  The thing to watch next is a price runup because of planting delays with corn.

Agg views are when somebody subscribes to your blog and reads your posts in their blog subscription service. It's a pretty techie thing to do, so you won't get many of them just yet.

However, yes people are reading the blogs in here, but there are plenty of ways to get more people reading them.

Anyway, I'm Adam, and I'm the blogging expert here at the beautiful, scenic brown twoer block that is home to Farmers Weekly and many other mags.

Your good lady host has dragged me kicking and screaming Wink in here to answer your questions, and give some hints.

Credential check: My main blogs are here and here...

Nice to meet you all. Be gentle with me... Geeked

You may be worrying too much. A bit of blatant self-promotion is important in blogging. Devil

Actually, Matty S - you've hit on a really good practice here. I think Adam might even mark you down as a potential blogger of genius.

Without putting words into our Guru's mouth, Adam might agree that it's great practice to leave a comment on other bloggers' posts - even if it's only to say "great post!". It drives people to your blog, but equally the blog you commented on knows that he or she has been read and likes you!

But I'm treading on AT's toes. I'll shut up now. Sorry. But am excited at all our ideas for supporting you budding agricultural bloggers.Drinks

Just finished knocking out a story for Friday's magazine so can rejoin the fray (sorry it is under a rather irritating embargo so I can't post it here first! Big Smile).

As you can see Adam and the Duck have very kindly offered to help us out with some ideas which could boost your readership. I'll be listening too - I'm keen on tips to help Diary of a Forum. Big Smile
