    Which Massey for general duty?

I have gone boggle eyed looking at red tractors on sites, ads, and mags.

I'd like a tidy MF with a nice simple cab - l.h. shuttle? for small farm use.

Possibly to be bought unseen - I'd like this tractor to cope with hay work, hedgecutting and have the ability to fit a loader for tightish yard work.

What 'modern' Massey fits the bill for you guys. Under 10 years old and under £20k inc VAT.

Your views would be appreciated. When I ask my neighbours down the pub they tell me NH or Case.

    Any fergy fans out there?

Appreciate any help with reccomendation for tractor and small loader.

    Thanks

    John A

ps - something the wife can drive also....

I would say your options are either a 4300 series or a 5400 series. Don't know if you'd manage to get a 5400 series with your budget but if you can there a far better specked tractor. A 4345 or a 4355 would be what a good size for you I would say. You could also look at the 3600 series which are compact tractors but don't know what like they would be with a loader on them, I have no experience of this series of tractors so can't tell you anymore. hope this helps.

We run a 6255 massey, works like a dream, has a Chilton loader on it and handles everything we through at it on our 200 acre beef farm. hauling silage trailers, spreaders, 4 furrow reversible, etc. cant remember what we paid for it but it is a 52 plate machine.

    Good luck

     massey 390

    4235, 4245, 4255

    4335, 4345, 4355

    5445, 5455

all are tight, all between 75 and 105 odd horse power... 390 been used on a lot of dairy farms, 5455 is the most sold loader tractor with its snoopy bonnet, quicky loader, and good gearbox.

dyno shift is soo much nicer than the manual gears... but gears are alright, we use them.

pricing off the top of my head....

    9000 for a 390

    12-16000 for 42 and 43 series

and you can go any price for the 54 series, because they've been running for... 2 or 3 years ?  and are still in production

John Deere is the only real answer , Massey is not the answer to any tractor related question any more .

I think the opposite here...MF have been absoluteley dead for 10 years but i've never seen so many new ones at the moment and anything agco like gleaner combines all having a huge comeback...Deeres and fendts are dissapearing..?

    I think my L reg 390 with 880 loader is worth about $18'000 here.....$25000 at a dealer

Have been looking at a tidy 4345 and a nice 5455. The 4345 has a 12x12 manual, the 5455 a 16x16. Both are snoopy, with clean cabs and serviced.

    Which one appeals?

Indeed , but at least I can pull in them , unlike people with red and grey pyjamas who spend all night wondering if the thing will work or not LOL .
