    Replacement for 6160

Hi folks I've been operating my '95 16x16 6160 for 5 years now. I do a lot of road work and general farm duties with it. It has been a reliable tractor but now things are starting to go wrong more frequently and its starting to cost me quite a bit, as we speak its in the workshop with the manual synchro stuck in reverse so another split job! I want to replace it within the next few months and was looking for advice on the reliability of the modern series of Masseys, from what I've read there are some common problems which can be avoided by the right choice of tractor. Unfortunately I wont be taking delivery of a brand new machine, probably 4 or 5 years old around 120hp with minimum electrics but good road box and suspended cab, these pot holes are like bear traps! Any help will be much appreciated!

Hey Marty. An mf 5460 or a NH ts115A would be my first choice as im thinking of purchasing one or the other myself in the near future. Both can have front axle and cab suspension. The 5460 has the highly reguarded Dyna 4 gearbox whch has 4 gears with 4powershift steps in two ranges. The TS can have dual command box with four gears with dual power two step splitter in two ranges and is bomb proof, or Range Command with a semi power shift gearbox which is also reliable. Bare in mind that dual comand cannot have cab suspension as the gear linkages cant work with a moving cab. Hope this helps.

We've got a MF 6470 Dyna 6, and extemely pleased with it, plenty of power and very economical, and even though it's a 4cyl, it has a slightly longer wheelbase so rides on the road very well.

The only trouble with them is that they are about as expensive as a JD (but, in my opinion better than a JD).

Ours was featured in last months Profi magazine if you want to read more about it.
