    Exam tips

Exams aren't that far away so thought it would be useful to try to get together some tips for revision and exams for those either at school or Ag college, so feel free to share yours.

I was always told that you can't concentrate for more than about three-quarters of an hour in any one go, so it's important to have regular breaks. Obviously the breaks shouldn't be too long thoughBig Smile

Listen and understand it when fierst taught it, then so long as you remember it you don't need to revise! Revision always clashes with silaging anyway. It worked for me, never done any revision in my life!

For those of us who have to revise, a 10 minute break in 45 is good. I listen to music when revising, not sure whether thats good or bad, but it works for me. I have been in classes where everyone else gets it first time. I would have to go home and go over and over the material, doing rough pages of notes and finally it would start making sense. But the only thing is, at least I have a technique that works for me. It can be hard to find a study pattern/schedule that works for the individual, and at the beginning all study is good long, short medium what ever works. Even notes on the back of the hand, are good.

A good relationship with the tutor always helps, but unfortunately, is not always an option. Don't get over familiar, just so you can approach them outside class for direction/advice.Wink

Make sure you go to the right exam or even the right day for the exam. Found that always helped. Other than that revise a bit relax and lay of the heavy drinking the day before Smile

i'm currently in my first year of A levels, so had GCSE's last summer, for a bit of a pretext, i got 1 A*, 6A's, and 3B's

i think mursal had a very good point just above me here, about making sure it is easy to ask teachers for help, it is surprising how willing they will be to help you. fortuneately my sixth form college has a very sound "workshop" program, where you can take any problem with you, be it from homework, or something you didn't get in lessons. these are really helpful, so see if they are available, even just informally at lunchtime or whatever

You need to find out how you learn best. For me, its a airy quiet place - middle of a field (although you will look a t*t), or just on my own out of the way. Somewhere where you can concentrate!

very true, and also the discipline of STAYING in that place, and not getting distracted by other things, eg facebook/tv. that is something i'm not very good at, but when i got a good session going, it felt very rewarding

thanks for your kind words mursal :)

however, GCSE's were a bad lesson for me, because, in the whole i didnt do nearly as much revision as i should've done, so those results could have been a lot higher, but i'm still pleased.

I think there is a balance to be found though, between school work and having a social life, for example, one of my freinds got 9A*'s and 1A, but had no social life from May onwards last year until the last exam, so its also about making sure that it is slightly enjoyable aswell.
