Please Help Me - Information Required – Pulses in a Crop Rotation

    Dear All

I am about to start a new career in the Agriculture Industry as a trainee specialising in Pulse contracts. I have already been visiting farms to fast track my learning and researching the internet but want more information. If you could spare me a few minutes of your time it would be greatly appreciated and would help me so much.

    • What I would like to know is your views on having or possibly using pulses in your crop rotations, what are the advantages and disadvantages?
    • What are the economics of different crops: Peas vs. Beans?
    • Any other information on growing Pulses or Arable Farming?

I am hoping that the biggest farming forum will be able to give me a much greater insight into the arable farming industry and help me kick start my career.

Thank you in advance for you time.

I did not respond to you original post because although I have grown a fair range of pulses both for the grain harvest and to plough down I only have experience of this in Australia and Portugal, not the UK. Surely the people employing you are in a position to provide the required information. If not, then I suggest Australian and US websites. Govt depts in Australia are particularly good and the Universities in the US. Both though will only give you basic info, the detail being applicable to their own location. Also try the TEAGASC site. I obtained some good info on growing lupins from there.
