Post drivers - diger or tractor mounted?

    Hi there,

I'm looking to build myself a post driver. Can anyone advise on the best for the job. Generally, it will be standard stock fencing in quite heavy ground, i have the choice to build one for the tractor, Matbro or a 2.5 ton Volvo digger. ( i'm a bit bothered it might end up too heavy for the digger??) Any advice would be good.

mounting it on a forklift or digger requires some complicated hydraulics, as no free return as tractors have.  i tried to put a postpuncher on a manitou and gave up.

If you are doing a lot I would suggest a side tractor mounted one as you can then drive along the fence line rather thand driving and reversing up to each post
