Problems with a new fertiliser spreader, and the manufacturer.

In the spring 2011 we bought a new spreader. For those that want to know the exact make, you can PM me. It was 2010 model. It cost quite a bit of money as it had weighcells. Within 4 months there was rust appearing on the machine corners, in the hopper, and around the linkage. Around this time we noticed the veins were already rippled. This was before it had spread 150 tonnes. Machine has been well looked after, washed down after use and stored inside. Has anyone else experienced this before?

Why don't you want to name the make ? A little bad publicity can sometimes help the manufacturer to get its act together and sort your problem out.

Sounds like you've been sold an inferior product.

What type of fertiliser & what quantity will have a huge bearing on wear rates for spreading vanes. I trashed a set of new Amazone ones in 2 days spreading TSP.

Did you ever wash off the spreader after use? Sorry, just thought I'd ask the obvious.

It has been a mix. 34.5N, DAP and Muriate of Potash. Up to 150 tonnes spread in total. Machine washed down and stored inside after every use. Brisel - What quantities were you spreading to trash a set of vanes in 2 days? Did you accept it? In my mind that is not good enough!

About 58 tonnes of 0.24.24 (a blend of TSP & MOP) turned a new set of vanes into rippled ones. Not a write off but it would have taken an entire season to get the same effect from AN or urea.
