    Problems with moles

Over the last 2 or 3 years i have noticed an increase in mole activity on our farm, this year the numbers of mole hills has increased dramaticaly so i have purchased some traps today and was wondering if anyone out there has any tips on how to get the best results as i have no experience and the instructions only tell you how to set them .

We are not here for a long time so try to have a good time

    Re: Problems with moles

Hi, firstly, bury your new traps in the same soil type as where the moles are,for a week.Make a run finder, a rod with a blob of weld at the end, rub your hands in soil before setting traps and keep the holes you make for the trap as neat as possible, if you get a mole still alive just apply preasure at back of its head(they have no skull here so instant death), try to harrow field before you start which makes the moles easier to locate. Moles wil have young about now so they are active, working morning then evening, once had two in the same barrel trap, father caught an albeno, hope this helps.

       An excellent suggestion from avalon.

Put the trap in the run, rather than under the hill, make sure the trap sits at the bottom of the run. Put soil aroud the edges (not on the top as that will stop the trap springing) and then put a bucket over the trap to keep out the light. A further point, if there are lots more runs that you have traps, do not spread the traps around in the hope of getting a mole from each run. Concentrate your traps in one area. (say ten traps to four or five suspected runs)

I have however also found that if I chain harrow for about four days running the moles go somewhere else.
