    SPS online

This was on the RPA website, will it work?

RPA will offer customers the opportunity to send SP5 data to RPA electronically, commencing with the scheme year for 2008. Our strategy is based on working with existing farm software providers who can adapt their software packages to offer new functionality and offer this to an existing and new customer base. This service will give farmers the ability to submit SP5 claim forms electronically to the RPA, by entering the information on their computers using Commercial Farm Software (CFS) and then submitting this to the RPA via the Government Gateway. Feedback from the farming community indicates that this service would be welcomed, in particular by the larger, IT enabled farming operations. The RPA operates an impartial policy to commercial suppliers and is therefore undergoing a process of communicating to all farming software suppliers. It will then be for suppliers to consider whether they wish to offer this service to their customers. It will be the responsibility of the software suppliers to undertake the necessary development work to ensure their software has the necessary functionality RPA will only allow suppliers who have passed the conformance test to submit data to the RPA Data Exchange (DE). To help software suppliers achieve the necessary standards and requirements the RPA will provide information and support during the development process. It should be stressed that this is the first step in providing customers with an electronic channel for SPS claims. It is anticipated that we will continue an ongoing communication channel with the farm software suppliers taking part in the initiative.

I dont see why it wouldnt work, will save alot of time and effort, it will also mean that the farmers data can be kept on their computers so that they have something to cross check against each year.

    Re: SPS online

I filed my e-IACS online before the system was withdrawn. I found it to be very useful, easy to operate but rather slow to switch between pages. The best bit of online form filling is the elimination of potential mathematical errors as the software adds up all the relevant columns and puts the totals in the right boxes. The worst bit was obtaining a "digital certificate" but that has been replaced with a username and password type login. With a simpler form to fill in post set-aside I can only think it's a good idea to use the online system again.
