Technical Issues (to whom it may concern)

Hi Isabel, I can only include one Smiley in any given post. Is this correct or am I hitting the wrong buttons, again??

Obviously I have now found out, how to add a single Smiley. But I thought, Hay why stop at one??

Hhs. Have you changed to Microsoft Office 2007 or is it that your Operating System is the replacement for Vista, whereas you were on XP?

The effects of changes to the Software or OSsystem can be so frustrating and you have my sympathy. Maybe if you can define the problem clearly one of us may be able to point you towards a solution. I do however, realise that defining the problem can take so much time that one is tempted to keep fiddling around in the hope of hitting on a solution almost by accident.

New Windows 7 Ultimate quad core running Office 2007. It point blank refused to transfer emails to Outlook from Windows mail, had to migrate via Live Mail. The shift from 32 bit Vista that the machine came with to 64 bit 7 left it without coprocessor drivers which had to be reinstalled. Getting near to being a useful system I think.

Now have a fully working Outlook 2007 and full Office 2007 suite on Windows 7 Ultimate. A much better and easier to use integrated system. The only things that did not make it from the old system were an old webcam which I will leave with the old machine and a Sage accounts package which be replaced by a new version with online VAT filing support. If you are going to 7 please take my advice and get it preinstalled. IE is better in 7 a good deal faster but still very slow compared to Chrome on our line. The rest of the interface is very very much better. Was it worth the effort? Probably not as for about £50 I could have had it all done for me but that would have not been any fun at all.

What a good write up and I shall refer to it when, and if, I upgrade.

You have also given us a wonderful to testimony to the benefits of 'experience' as opposed to theory, and those of us, including you, KF, Old Mc, Bovey farmer, BB and others who keep explaining the value of BOTH theory and experience, will be mighty pleased with this illustration of how experience can, at times, be more valuable than theory alone. In fact, to those of us who simply want to use a tool, we need not know the theory of how it works, but do need to know only the most effective way of using it under different operation conditions.

Is it true that you only get two hardware fixes and you have to reinstall Windows 7?? I believe Windows 7 integrates itself into the BIOS of the machine and shuts down if two pieces of hardware are changes? For example if you had two hardware failures after the initial installation.

He his-self are you into gaming/graphics using a quad core processor?

mursal no sign 7 affecting the bios rather the reverse it seems keen to leave stuff alone hence me having to reinstall motherboard drivers. As to gaming no just sheep EID and a bit of future proofing. A quad core with 4 gig ram and 1 gig graphics card is is only £340 in my case. Why buy less?
