    The future of sugar beet

It's been a tough 12 months for beet growers, frost, drought, changes to contracts and threatened strikes looming. Now proposals for an end to sugar beet quota have been leaked to the press. Can it get any worse? Or could a freeing up of the market be good news for growers? What is the future for the crop in England?

Don't grow sugar beet but all forms of production quota means that someone, usually government, is making a decision for you on how much you can produce. Would much rather be free to make those kind of decisions myself.

Grow fodder beet in stead and sell at £37 a ton may be more as there is a shortage of fodder for us livestock farmers
