    The six word farming challenge

Ernest Hemingway once said his best work was a story he wrote in just six words: 'For sale: baby shoes, never worn.' Here's a challenge for you - can you sum up your farming life in just six words.

Here's mine to start things off:

Physically in office, mentally in field.

And should you require more inspiration:

Grow it, sell it, eat it.

Youthful optimism, government stupidity, looming bankruptcy.

    or

Cheap food, expensive oil, food rationing.

    or

Beef cattle, no money, renewable energy.

A casual stroll through the lunatic asylum shows that faith does not prove anything.

    Some adaptations of the Hemingway:

"Farm for sale: not much growing."

"Swamp for sale: too much rain."

"For sale: sheep, dirty fleece, hungry."

If I was to be positive ,then:

                                      "The future's green,

                                       the future's farming"

    or more realistically:

"We had never kept sheep before......."

My farming life could be summarised by a series of collective nouns:

    i.e a Catastrophe of Cluns

    a Turning-over of Texels

    a Scouring of Suffolks

    a Migration of Mules

    a Butting of Blackface

But to keep to the 6 word challenge:

"The ewe has fallen in WHAT?...........

Keeping sheep from their lifetime ambition

We just needed one more rain.

Her calf was good last year.

We need one more sunny day.

Alot of cows have three quarters( I cleaned that one up a bit).

It was working fine last year.

    I don't think we'll get stuck.

I swore he was a steer.

Things that farm student's only have to say,to make the blood run cold.

Err, I am a bit stuck.

It just went bang and stopped.

The gateway was a bit narrow.

It was deeper than I thought.

I found this hanging off it.
