    Re: this seasons net wrap

I've got half a dozen rolls of it left from when the pick up collapsed on the round baler a couple of years ago and I've not bothered replacing it.

Farmers brand was OK, nothing spectacular, but you get what you pay for! The one good thing was that it was very visible on the bale. Two wraps looked like four layers of some other brands, and it could be seen clearly through the belts to check it was on the bale not wrapped around a roller before the bale was ejected!

I find the Farmers 7200 twine adequate, but not as good as some other brands. It's quite a hard, round string that I find let's a knot slip more than a soft flat string. The best I ever had was a Finnish twine, Piippo, that as far as I know isn't imported anymore.

Hi, i'm looking for prices and all very quiet at the moment.

I always use Tama netwrap. They are recomended by all the baler manufacturers. It's not quite the cheapest but it is the only net that covers the bales perfectly which is what i look for. You may have a different reason for using net but consider their 4200mtr netwrap, much longer and less changing of rolls.... Something Farmers are not producing yet.

I tried tama 42 last year and did not think it as good as winner that i use most of the time the tama worked out a bit more pricey per metre too

yea...price was a bit daft last year. I was at a Claas dealer open day last week in Yorks and their was a guy there from Tama, he said price was coming down but i couldnt get him to say by how much.

Down around us (co.cork) i've been using Farmers 3600 net, seems to do the job and costs less! Nothing worse than net splittng and having to do the whole lot again!!

I have found the farmers brand to be alot stronger than the tama net, requiring less wraps, something that can be felt in the wieght of the rolls compared to the wieght of the same length of its competiors also those 4200 rolls are pretty heavy, not sure i'd want to be using those if i had alot of baling to be done

What i mean by strength is i found it could take a denser bale and have noticed that all the threads are thicker and there are more of them

boring boring boring....were you broke down a lot which gave you the time to count the threads...bloomin thousands of em..lol haha. Not used the cheap stuff so carnt compare..i decided to switch to 4200 this year from 3600 last year and never noticed anthing diff. except less changing of the rolls.

back in 1990 my dad bought a Ford 8210. it was the dogs watsits for its time!! 115hp..6 cylinder and the bonnet went for miles!!! we now got deeres and run a 6430 for rowing up and small jobs..thing is... it has 1 less cylinder, no bonnet, MORE HP, stronger hydraulics and is lighter than the Ford 8210 from 20 years ago..so having something bigger and more of them dont always mean you have a good peice of kit.

We always try to invest in the most upto date kit it saves me time and money we found over the years. JD net looks good in the yellow and green also. Infact we picked up another 1500 bales this year so we pleased with 2010..its been good to us..

lol..yea my dad used to say that about the Ford...

in the end it was thirsty on fuel and slow on the road....and what became of the Ford name as we knew it???

If your in business to do a good job then it pays to invest well or we fade away like the great name of Ford tractors we grew up with..

From experience accepting something that just works bites us on the butt...and costs money in the process!!

    Re: this seasons net wrap

Things to look for are price per bale, strength its no good if it falls apart, coverage of the ends of the bales [not to keep the rain out if you wont to do that tie with string] with silage it will keep the bale smaller so will use less bale wrap this is also why you shouldnt put to little net on as this will let the bale grow as it comes out the baler, you wont it to run well and stick to itself and the bale its a pain if the bales roll of the net as they come out the baler

No ist not all the same

    Re: this seasons net wrap

    Thanks Henarar,

I deff agree that they are not all the same, i have used pipo?(pippo not sure how its spelt) before and some other budget nets before and had a nightmare, with bales bursting and tufts at each edge (which lets more air in and isnt as good for silage)

To me there are 2 leading brands, Tama and Farmers (feel free to let me know if you think there are others), Tama has stripes for those who dont know how to load they're baler and Farmers is pure white, both covering the full bale Theres a considerable price diff which must reflect on cost per bale, personally i dont really want to pay the extra for a few stripes around my bales.....

...sorry, but Farmers is not a leading brand!!

I've used it and yep its white, and yep it covered the bales (of sorts)...but thats about it. Could only get 3000mtr and numbers of bales per roll varied so was difficult to calculate price per bale.

I had 3600mtr rolls and all had more than the 3600 on them i would just figure your price out as the marked length but know your getting a little bit extra

Doesn't Tamanet manufacture and throw a JD, Bridon Cordage, Claas, or their own label on the roll?
