    Tesco gets it wrong again

We've just been sent this packaging by a Robert Fuller from Malton in Yorkshire - he thought it might amuse/disgust readers. As he points out it is no wonder the public is confused. They also use the same picture on their cornflakes!

Yes, thats naughty. Not quite misleading, but maybe you lot at FW have contacts at Tesco. You could send it to them and ask for comment for next weeks issue.

Now call me cynical...but I bet that lovely crop of wheat isn't organic either...!

Look what I have just found in today's Times:

Does Tesco know its wheat from its oats? The Farmers Weekly website is terribly upset about the packaging for the grocer's brand of organic porridge oats, which quite clearly depicts Triticum aestivum rather than the more appropriate Avena sativa. (Stop showing off, Waller. We all know how to use the internet. Ed.) Tesco says that the criticism is “slightly unfair. It's a design feature of the packaging.” In other words, all its brands of cereal carry the same basic picture, no matter what they are made of. Quite so; though why the nation's farmers should be so keen to rubbish Tesco, I could not say.

This story reminds me of when father took some bullocks to the local abbatoir a few years back. As usual he stopped to see them killed and on this particular day there was also a group of supermarket meat buyers present. One of them asked him "are these your cows?"  All the more ridiculous as at the time nothing over 30 months was going in the food chain.  I can understand that most of the public wouldn't know the difference but i think those in charge of the meat at the supermarkets ought to have a better understanding.

See what influence you have. This is in today's Mirror:

    Tesco comes a crop-per..

    SHOPPING

Tesco has been rapped by farmers - for printing a picture of a wheat field on its Organic Porridge Oats.

The mistake was seized on by agricultural workers who often complain that their prices are squeezed by supermarket giants.

Emails to a Farmers' Weekly fun blog said it was "naughty" and: "No wonder the public is confused".

But Tesco said the criticism was unfair as the picture is "just to represent organic produce" - and is also on its other own brand cornflakes and cereal bars.

PS It is news to me that this is a blog. But at least they said it was fun!

So the papers would rather pick up on this as a 'farming' issue and not the real issues like animal health, high production costs etc. etc., just shows you how manipulative they are, they can't wait to depict farmers as a bunch of whingers! And to top it all, they can't tell a blog from a forum! criminal!!  Confused

    Not every day is baaaaad.....

So Tesco doesn't really mind what it puts on its packaging as long as it represents something organic??

On that basis, the next time I buy a tin of organic tomatoes in Tesco I assume I should look for the cans with organic beans on the front.

Ludicrous Tesco. You should be able to do better than that...

...and one other thought on Tesco's rather weak response.

Next time I go to Sainsbury's I guess I could actually be walking into Tesco. After all, the sign outside 'represents a supermarket' - clearly doesn't matter which one...to Tesco!

It all sounds a bit Carry On doesn't it? Huh? Interesting punctuation too...
