    Vegtable/Root & Cereal Rotation question

Knowing absolutely nothing about veg crops I have a few questions I wondered if you guys could help with. Would a rotation as shown below cause any problems? Parsnips, Onions, Potatoes/leeks, Carrots Do these crops have the same diseases? I have all the info regarding sowing dates and harvesting etc but the disease information is very poor. I am looking at a block of 120 acres (2 x 60 acre fields) with irrigation that is on offer for 4 years as of next spring. Soil type and sample info from extensive tests say veg/roots crops are the best suited. Storage available with excellent access to some very major roads. Also what are veg/roots rents making these days with irrigation.

Its not had spuds on it for 5 years. Does PCN affect other veg/root crops? The last 5 years have seen wheat, rape, barley and beans grown with a bit of set a side.

onions and leeks want 5-6 years between carrots and parsnips are the same I would advise caution if you are thinking of growing these crops off your own bat with no past experience!

    Vegtable/Root & Cereal Rotation question

I was under the impression that PCN could breed and attack in parsnips, carrots and potatoes. The crop can be rendered fit only for stockfeed. PCN can remain dorment for 15 years listen to my long lost cousin swede head. Marketing the crop may also be a problem. Customers may promise the earth to you before you plant the crop and then "kick you to death" if there is a surplus at harvest time. Especially if you are organic.

    Vegtable/Root & Cereal Rotation question

It sounds a bit silly but why not ask a neighbour with a large allotment and see what diseases his veg get and look at his rotation because your only doing the same thing really.
