    vices of farmers!

Our sunday afternoon discussion over tea was common vices in farmers (all local ones you understand!) All three of us decided we knew no gamblers, few drinkers past young farmers age, and lots of chain smokers over 60!  There is the odd machinary collector, an exagerater (sp?), but generally a good cleanish living lot round here.......any vices you admit to? (Mine are being nosey, gossping about it, and obviously avoiding work on a sunday afternoon!)

Much the same here, and I've got one of those big old blacksmiths ones set in the concrete out the front of the workshop with an anvil.

    Re: vices of farmers!

I was once in a small group setting in which the participants were each asked to say what their vices were.

The first member said " My vice is that I am much too honest."

The group leader took this in his stride and said, " I know what you mean, I have a similar virtue regarding lying too little."

As for me. I have vices a plenty but I am not listing them on this forum or anywhere else. I can only hope that my vices are more than compensated by any virtues.

If they're your only ones, you should be proud of yourselfBig Smile

And the nosey/gossiping ones are common to most farmers, I reckon - although I'm sure they'd prefer to call it "taking a healthy interest in local news"!

I suppose we're all guilty of taking an interest in what the neighbours are up to or what they've just bought, etc. I remember a good few years back when everyone around here was milking cows if someone went mowing 1st clip silage before the day was out there were mowers running everywhere. One year for once instead of being on the last minute i'd fetched the mower out a couple of weeks early to get it ready to go & seeing as it was on the tractor i decided to go 4 a little ride round. Our land is spread over quite a few miles in each direction & by the time i got home i had 3 land rovers behind me all following at a discreet distance to see if we had some grass somewhere that they didn't know aboutSmile

    Re: vices of farmers!

I don't really drink (next Friday may be an exception), never smoked, never touched drugs, don't gamble (apart from the obvious everyday farming risks), I don't think a landrover 300tdi counts as a fast car, and as much as I would like to find a loose woman, it's been a long time!! I do however have a bit of a thing for tea, and will drink about nine cups on a normal day, sometimes a lot more than that.
