What have you done for charity?

Hats off to poultry processor Arthur Diaper (or should that be "moustaches off)" who has shaved off half his moustache to raise funds for Help for Heroes.

Have you ever done anything as whacky for charity? I once climbed the three highest peaks in the Lake District in a weekend for Cancer Research, but that hardly competes in the self-humiliation stakes with Mr Diaper's excentric antics...

I did not do it myself, it was done for me, but definitely poultry related:-

In one chance opportunity I was filmed for national TV, with some kids singing Old McDonald Has a Farm as the programme was being introduced, and a regional newspaper followed this up. We also made our own publicity and on one occasion claimed the highest quality eggs in the British Isles. This was an undisputed fact; because as part of a charitable fund-raising effort where he had to raise his own costs to go and help in a South American school for a year (the kids do all the work and find the money, and the charity gets the kudos) a school friend of our son, Matthew Browne, climbed Ben Nevis, Scafell, Snowdon and Carrauntoohill the highest peaks in Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland respectively over one Easter weekend. He carried some of our hard-boiled eggs with him and ate at least one on top of each peak having photographs taken by a fellow climber. This sort of stunt creates a lot of publicity, and people come looking for you at markets. It also did Matthew some good because our feed and poultry suppliers gave him some sponsorship too. More newspaper and magazine coverage followed.
