What is the Greatest Farming View?

As part of Farmers Weekly's 75th anniversary we're launching a major series to identify some farming 'greats'. We're kicking off our search with a look at the greatest innovations in the industry. But we'll be running a photo competition over the coming weeks to enable people to send in their favourite 'views'. It might be a view across your farm, or it might be something specific like the last run of corn to be harvested at the end of a long, hard summer or a calf as it suckles for the first time.

If you have a picture that you think could be classed as "The greatest farming view" then upload it to this gallery.

Anyone who puts forward a suggestion for a category will have their name entered into a prize draw to win a free subscription to Farmers Weekly. There will be a prize draw for each of the six categories that are running.

Haven't got a photo yet but I would have thought the greatest view would be the hay/harvest gathered in and not stuck out on the field in the pouring rain.

Again, I have made a decision, sort of, and it is a tie of sorts.  This is a tough one, and I think it can have multiple answers.  What probably leads by a nose for me is the view when all the cows have been turned to grass, all the hog feeders are full, and the crops are growing and doing well.  I think for each farmer that view over his or her own farm is the best, but, that doesn't happen every year, at least not in Kansas, sometimes you want to close your eyes as you drive by your pastures and fields because they are either burning up, or unplanted.  What does happen every year, for better or worse, is the first and last calf born(or pig, lamb, or foal), I am always glad for the first, and glad for the last, both are great views.  The first and last pass of the year with both the planter and the combine, again, both views are great, for different reasons.  As I have typed, I think I have discovered a better view, one I have yet to see, that is, the view of the last payment ever to a banker be it on a land note, operating note, equipment note, or livestock note, yes, I think that has to be it, the greatest view is the last bank payment.  Sadly, for me, this will probably be about 2 weeks before Mrs. KF writes a check to plant me under the Kansas prairie.......hopefully 40 or 50 years from now!!

I thought your Livestock editor would be championing the Devil's Kneading Trough. Admittedly I guess I prefered it when I was younger when we used to go for a walk there during the summer and Ashford didn't take up so much of it.

Though admittedly from what I have seen the Lake district would take some beating.

Enjoy the surrounding interests - historic towns, golf courses, vineyards and wine tours. Or just veg out and get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Kookaburras, wallabies and possums abound the property.

    Try this one. http://maps.google.co.uk/?ie=UTF8&ll=57.602244,-4.290161&spn=0,359.8843&t=h&z=14&layer=c&cbll=57.602387,-4.290011&panoid=g0xikoM6bnfYQgoyevAEjA&cbp=12,128.09,,0,2.66

After clicking on the link, wait. When the photograph comes up, swing around to roughly the NW and see the Cromarty Firth, Ben Wyvis and further East towards Alness. The house is more elevated than the entrance so the view from the sitting room window shos more of the firth. Then zoom in on the place name on the gate post to see where you would be looking from.
