Isabel,  I'll be showing the sheep on Tuesday morning but I'll catch up with you on Wednesday.

If anyone else will be there, come and find me on the sheep lines (the nom de plume will give you a clue which breed to look for) or pm me and I'll give you my mobile number.

You might see me sweating buckets protected from the sun and downpours under a bowler  but I do not think I'll spend long there  as it will be disappointing to see what was once a flagship for British agriculture  going down the pan . How can one be enthusiastic  when government  ministers usually come with anti farming news instead of positve thoughts. Thank god Prince Charles has the bottle to get up and say what he thinks ! Theres quite a few bowlers there Isobel so it will keep you quessing the author of this !

Re: Who is off the final-ever Royal Show?

Took the sheep down this afternoon.  We're in the NSA building - one tap, no electric lights.  The NSA now just has a small caravan type stand.  There don't appear to be any sheep breed society stands (or at least none visible) but at least there is a bar in the NSA again this year so we can drown our sorrows.

One other thing that has fooled everyone, each exhibitor has been given a spare pen for kit.  This is unheard of at The Royal, so everyone always books, and pays for, an extra pen.  Our sheep have never had so much room, it's just a pity they couldn't have told us when we entered and saved us some dosh!

Re: Who is off the final-ever Royal Show?

It seems I was a little bit mean to The Royal in my last post.  We have three taps and they all have water in them, apparently the taps were there yesterday but not the water.

A chat with the man in charge of the penning has revealed the 'truth' behind the extra pens.  The NSA building, being of timber construction, has posts every 15 feet.  If a pen has a post in it it doesn't count as a pen.  The spare pens which don't have a post are apparently in case people turn up who are not on the plan - last year they were many.  Why spare pens in ones or twos would help with this I'm not sure, but it looks better than having a block of empty pens in each breed section.

On the bright side, maybe someone from the Royal read my comment about no lights.  This morning some electricians appeared and put up a few temporary floodlights.

Would have been better if it had been put down in March!  What a disappointment, alright if I wanted to buy some fine art or horse kit or be wooed by the supermarkets . The only saving grace was the livestock section a big thank you to those who took timeout to exhibited stock, I hope it was worth it. Managed to see all we wanted in 3 hours!

I got to Royal Monday evening and spent all day yesterday there. Must say I was overal pretty disappointed with the show. Although Emma did very well in her horse class, I was left wondering where rest of the show was to be honest. Took me an hour to look round the only interesting bits.

PLEASE SEE MY BLOG FOR A MORE INDEPTH VIEW OF THIS YEARS ROYAL

You're right, it was disappointingly quiet - I managed to get around everything I wanted to see in between press briefings. I guess the damp weather didn't help, and I suppose people are more likely to go towards the end of the week so it may pick up. Still, it's a shame it's had to come to an end like this.

Was nice to see you and Mrs Mildred anyway!

Brighter weather means more people are out today - so there is some more of that illusive 'buzz'. Loads of school kids running around looking excited too.

I'll try and see you Thursday as the FW team appear to have gone home then.  Hope it's not as bad as people are saying.  I was really looking forward to it.  Although a day out with just the better half and no kids should be fun for once.

Afraid I am back in the office on Thursday. But you will find jacobus if you venture to the sheep sheds. Look for a spotty dog, a yellow rosette or two, some jacob sheep and a moustache.

No spotty dog tomorrow, I'm leaving him to the tender care of pa-in-law so that I can be free to watch the interbreeds and get some photos and also visit the cattle sheds and the pigs which I haven't seen yet.
