Why Won't Anyone Give Us A Chance?

It is with a last ditch hope that I compile this letter, hoping that someone from Farming Community in the Worthing or surrounding area may be able to help us.

My husband and I are a professional couple, who unfortunately not been gifted with children so we have 3 beautiful gun dogs instead. Our liver and white springers bring hours of endless joy, happiness and laughter into our lives and push us to lead quite an active life by the endless walks and swims that we take them on. They have filled an immense void which would have otherwise been in our lives. We are responsible dog owners as our friends and family and current neighbours will willing vouch for.

I work for one of the largest Blue Chip companies in the country and due to internal reorganisation I was due to be made redundant at the end of this year, however fortune has smiled on me and I have been offered a similar role to the one that I currently do but with the added bonus of being able to relocate to our site in Worthing. Life couldn't be better for us, we get to move to a fantastic location between the sea and the downs without the worry of having to find employment - so what is the problem I can hear you asking!

We can't find a landlord in the Worthing or surround area who is willing to give us a chance and rent us a house because we have the dogs. I totally understand that some people don't want animals in a property but why are all dog owners tarred with the same brush. We have been in the same rented accommodation now for the past 5 years, during that time we have installed a new kitchen, bathroom, wooden floors and decorated twice a year to enhance the property (the landlord paid for the materials and we happily did the work), some landlords don't seem to realise that while we are renting the property from them, that property becomes our home and maintaining it to a high standard, gives us a lovely place to live in. Our dogs are trained, don't howl when we go out and definitely don't chew and in the five years we have lived where we do, we have never had any complaints from our neighbours.

Without being able to meet with any potential landlords face to face (most agents just say 'the landlord won't entertain animals' or 'there is no point asking them cos they have said no pets'), it is very difficult to point out that we could be great tenants if we were only given the chance. Our current landlords have also said that they are willing to speak to any potential landlord and provide them with any information about our time with them and the improvements we have undertaken, just so that they can be assured that we are genuine.

We desperately want to move to the Worthing area and I can't wait to take up my new role on the 4th Jan, but without finding an open minded landlord, this may never happen. If you or anyone you know would like to give us a chance, please just contact us.

I hope you find somewhere, I have Springers too and can endorse their non destructive nature ( unlike our collie who used to chew through doors on bonfire night!) Such a shame they won't listen.

    Good luck!
