    young farmers agm 2011

this is quite a serious one...

next year there's whispers of the yfc agm being held in butlins, the meeting about this will be held at this years agm in torquey, so if anyone has any particullarly strong feelings for or against this, maybe pop along.

I think i will do, and probably think im against it, because they want to try and discourage us from going into the local city, as they say we cause mischief (pah! what an insult) us? cause mischief... facts are the fountain looked better with bubbles coming out of it... and the duck was dead before we... did that to it... the traffic neededdd diverting away from that road... and that bin needed moving, a  quater of a mile down the road, with several people in it.

    we provide a service !

ok, these are nottt the best arguments  to bring up at an official meeting, and the upper people want to lose the image that young farmers are so proud of holding. but in all seriousness i think butlins would be too tight to hold an agm there, people would get chucked out for the whole weekend peobably, where as, with a town, they can only be chucked out of one club... and i dont know where they're planning on letting us rave it up all day.

any comments or views? and remeber you neeeed to go to the meeting if u want to oppose it

we need to get rid of the butlins idea and campaign for isle of man,as i have heard stories of years gone by of drinking the ferry dry before it gets to the isle of man i personally see that as a challenge so everyone campaign for ISLE OF MAN 2011

I mean initianly i am against the butlins idea... buttt do need to hear more before completely being against it... bu from what ive heard, i am.

and yes thanks what if, buckinghamshire is still very strong, good competition and together... sorry, what county are you ?

National Council went to Butlins last weekend to "Test Drive" it. I was fortunate enough to blag myself an invite and I have to say I was bloody impressed. As a veteran of 10 National weekends I went all ready to say "no way, forget it", but you know what, I could be persuaded.

If you've never been to Butlins at Minehead, forget the Hidy Hi image and imagine, if you will, a place with 5 pubs, 3 clubs, huge arcade, cinema, sports fields, full fair ground, a very impressive swimming complex  and accomodation forr 8,500 people spread over 360 acres! We went on what they call an "Adult weekend" which means stag and hen weekends basically, and yeah we could teach them a thing or two, but they're not strangers to alot of pi*#ed party goers. And if you feel at all confined, Minehead itself is on the door step. I'd say give it a chance before you dismess it out of hand. We can always go back to Black Pool or Tourquay (assuming we don't balls it up this time) another year.

P.s. FOrgot to mention the Go Karts.

On the Isle of Man point, unfortunately they can't cope with the numbers anymore cos most of the hotels have been turned into holiday flats and the big dance hall has gone. Bummer I know. I've got friends over ther and it is good fun.

no what i dont like is the amount of northern chavs, the falling down winter gardens totally in need of a paint job , the location of it 365 miles from my house , the fact it take ages to get served , the fact the police closed the place down last year ....?

northern chavs give us something o punch

winter gardenings could do with tidying up outside... but inside was good.

location wise... i like going away from home

i never take long to get served... you have to know how to do it

yea twas a shame one night the bar closed early... but owelll

and on the butlins front... (just so you know, im nottt representing young farmers, and this is not true...) but young farmers kind of like a little messing around and causing a little trouble, unlike many other groups that go to butlins... but anyway, we do need more info

    Re: young farmers agm 2011

You can see why the bigwigs would think it could be a good idea- i know loads of people who go to butlins for a cheap girls/ lads/ drinking holiday.... they would probably be set up to deal with the huuuge amounts of people/ alcohol consumed. but wether they would put up with yfc 'fun'? not sure, need more info really...

but cardiff- now thats a BRILLIANT idea, its a FAB night out. or swansea..... good thinking pasty girl!!! :)

    Re: young farmers agm 2011

My first agm was at Minehead in '92. I'm not saying it was a complete disaster, but it was the worst of the dozen or so that I attended. I'm sure a lot has changed since, YFC numbers are down, believe it or not despite your little misdemeanours you're not as consistantly outrageous as the old days. On the other side society in general has become much more of the binge drinking culture we take for granted in yfc, but with it has come a violence, arrogance and destructiveness which happily is still largely absent from young farmers. This means that the likes of Butlins now cater for the likes of the agm, and can probably cope with it much better than 20 years previously! Whatever you do don't let them ban you from Minehead town, getting into the smaller bars and drinking them dry is what it's all about!!! We helped clean up after ourselves and got nothing but praise from the licencees, not that it came over that way in the national press. (Not just the South Devon Gazzette or whatever you made it into last year!!!)

You're never too old to go to an agm, I cycled the 320 miles to Torquay with the club at the grand old age of 36, and it was tradition for the Essex president to take a band of vice presidents each year, some in their seventies, and could still party hard with the rest of us!!

They looked at Cardiff but apparently they wouldn't ba able to cope with the numbers. No where big enough to hold the dances apparently.
