A challenge has been laid down by Colin Clark from Turriff who has sent in these pics:

Here's a pop at the East Anglia farmers who I use to live among for 10 years in Stamford. It is only July and we are cutting from 8am to 9pm often briefly after a shower. We are cutting a staggering 5t plus per acre and I can hear them say it is 35% water, but recent work by several Scottish feed companies recognises moist grain digests significantly better and more consistantly than dry grain which causes spikes of acid. Intake is better and with the grain pre-digested by the crimping acid and ensiling the conversion may be 15-20% better - making up for the dry matter.

"In conclusion, on feed trials on our own unit finishing 1500 head we feed 10kg of moist grain which for a trial we adjusted for dry matter and fed 8.5kg of dry bruised grain subsequently weight gain fell. Weight gain did not return to par until we were feeding 10kg of dry grain! We harvest 3.3t up to 3.6t conventionally therefore crimp gives us over 5t of feed. Beat that Anglian wheat barons...."
