"I think this is an appalling decision. I live in Devon and we're finding badgers in feed sheds and dying because they are infected. Everyone wants to keep the healthy badgers and if a farm has them then it is their best interests to keep them.

"What about all the cows being slaughtered and the animal welfare issue of cows being jabbed in the neck every 60 days - it is crazy. It is very difficult to see how the government is going to get anywhere on cost sharing until it takes positive action on TB - the government can't expect respect until there is action on TB.

"The whole thing is madness really and every day it is left it will get more and more difficult to tackle. I can't believe government is being so lily-livered about the issue. The industry needs and the government is the only thing that can help us."
