having travelled 12 miles on main roads the back axle gave up on me within two minutes of getting in the field.

I have had that happen too. Just a stub axle, not the whole beam so we were going next day, that was on a Case Axial, can happen to them all.

happened to my grandad in an mf combine once went over a furrow a bit quick, not happened to me yet had a close one with the back wheel in a ditch though, although to of my friends have had there back wheels fall off there jd one on its first week out so i recon its manafacure error lol

In Ukraine, I worked with a contractor that had 120 New Hollands.  His machines drove all over the country and he had a pile of broken axles.  NH obviously didn't design them to stand hitting kerbs and potholes at speed.
