  • Re: Bluetongue videos and pictures

Thanks for the praise, I have to say I don't deserve all the credit, our photographer/video man Jonathan Page is the real artist on this one and has done an excellent on pulling it together. Cheers, Jonathan

  • Re: Bluetongue vaccine ordering

Hopefully, anyone wanting to have their stock certified as vaccinated shouldn't actually need to have their stock vaccinated by the vet, just have a vet "supervise" the vaccination. I'm not entirely sure what form this supervision may take, but it may be that they have to watch the...

  • Bluetongue videos and pictures

For all of you wanting more information on bluetongue we've put together three short videos covering the disease symptoms and its prevention and treatment, vaccine gun choice and use and finally practical vaccination tips. Much of it is new information related exclusively to bluetongue vaccination...

  • Re: Bluetongue vaccine ordering

A beacon of hope is rapidly emerging today with suggestions from informed sources within the DEFRA stakeholder group that bluetongue vaccine will become available in the protection zone as early as next week. DEFRA haven't confirmed it yet, but aren't denying it either. With no cases of "new"...

  • Re: Bluetongue vaccine ordering

Corky, as others have said the point of vaccinating is to protect your own stock. If those across the border are unable to get vaccine as soon as you there is nothing you can do about that, but failing to vaccinate your own stock will leave them open to infection. Meanwhile, having spoken to vets and...

  • Re: Bluetongue vaccine ordering

I take it you've placed an order then Peter? The prices your vet is quoting are in line with the DEFRA recommended prices, although the 50ml pack price is at the lower end and the 20ml pack price at the top end! His estimate of mid-June to July is interesting and may yet be proved right, although...

  • Bluetongue vaccine ordering

According to this week's FWi poll about half the livestock farmers responding haven't yet ordered any bluetongue vaccine. So, who are they and why aren't they telling their vets how much vaccine they're likely to need. It may only be a rough guess for many farms at the moment, but getting...

  • Re: New bluetongue cases in western England

It seems there may be good news on the way on this story. We've been told off the record that a second batch of tests have returned negative results for bluetongue and so no further movement restrrictions will be imposed. This does of course raise questions about the quality of the testing being...

  • Re: New bluetongue cases in western England

Afraid I've no knowledge of where the outbreak is or how many stock are affected. The feeling is that DEFRA are waiting until Monday so they can consult with stakeholders as to the best course of action. They may extend the current zone westwards or just put in place 20k zones around the outbreaks...

  • New bluetongue cases in western England

DEFRA is expected to make an announcement on Monday which will confirm new cases of bluetongue in Shropshire and Cheshire. A source close to DEFRA told Farmers Weekly that the cases which had been discovered in the last few days were not believed to have been found in imported animals, suggesting the...
