  • Bovine TB Vaccine

Hi,my name is Michaela, I'm a PhD student at the University of Sheffield and I'm taking part in a Bioscience enterprise competition and just wandered if I could get some views from cattle farmers. Our idea is a novel way of delivering vaccines in cattle, and we have chosen specifically to target...

  • Re: The short life of bottles of Antibiotic- An additional cost

After qualifying as a vet in 1971, I joined the late Mike Muirhead's practice in Yorkshire and found myself wrestling with this very dilemna, how long can you keep using a bottle of antibiotic or other medication, particularly if its expensive and you don't need to use it very often. I quickly...

  • Re: Bluetongue vaccine ordering

A beacon of hope is rapidly emerging today with suggestions from informed sources within the DEFRA stakeholder group that bluetongue vaccine will become available in the protection zone as early as next week. DEFRA haven't confirmed it yet, but aren't denying it either. With no cases of "new"...

  • Re: Bluetongue vaccine ordering

Corky, as others have said the point of vaccinating is to protect your own stock. If those across the border are unable to get vaccine as soon as you there is nothing you can do about that, but failing to vaccinate your own stock will leave them open to infection. Meanwhile, having spoken to vets and...

  • Re: Bluetongue vaccine ordering

I take it you've placed an order then Peter? The prices your vet is quoting are in line with the DEFRA recommended prices, although the 50ml pack price is at the lower end and the 20ml pack price at the top end! His estimate of mid-June to July is interesting and may yet be proved right, although...
