Recent arrivals, 6 point of lay poulets, are now coming into lay. Some days we get 5 eggs, other days just 1 or 2. All depends on weather - & whether or not we've taken time out of the lambing shed to shift their run! Not sure if the quality of household scraps fed as a bonus affects productivity...

Spring is really in the air: the chooks say so! Point of lay pullets have started laying, so the days are getting longer - even if there aren't any more hours in the day!

Are the banks lending to poultry producers?

I've heard from some poultry farmers, specifically free-range egg producers, that they are having trouble getting overdrafts or loans from the big banks. Can anybody on the Platform put paid to this?

Re: Time to take direct action against the packers and supermarkets?

I know over the channel European farmers get seriously militant regarding poor prices* but it doesn't seem to help them out too much, though it does raise the profile of the issue. Co-ops could be a good idea but I think at the end of the day the best way is through the proposed supermarket ombudsman...
