Tractor test: And the winner is…

Fendt is the clear victor in this test. However more than £20,000 separates its price from some of the others in the comparison.

On performance, functionality, comfort and economy, however, the Fendt 310 Vario scores comes out top. The frugal 4-valve Deutz engine beat the group average comfortably, while the transmission “couldn’t” be better in its class”.

The Case-IH CS 105 Pro scored highly with our testers for ergonomics, build quality and overall performance and the John Deere 5100R and the MF 5445 had high overall scores throughout.

If you’re after a strong, perky performer and you’re willing to spend a little more on fuel, then the MF will be attractive. If it’s value for money, then the Deutz and the New Holland will be firm contenders. And if it’s a strong all-rounder, the Valtra is certainly worth a look.
