NEW for the 98 season from Dowdeswell is the Bedvator. Available in working widths of 1.6m, 1.7m and 1.86m (63in, 67in and 73in) the machine is designed, says the company, to meet the needs of vegetable growers looking to create seed-beds of uniform structure and size.
A pair of adjustable disc openers attached to the front first gathers soil from the tractor wheel marks into the powered rotor. The rotor – there are three options: Veg, spiked or speed bladed – creates the initial required tilth, while a second, contra-rotating rake breaks up the remaining clods and levels the surface.
Working depth is controlled by the units rear wheels. With a power requirement from 60hp to 90hp, prices start at £7003 for the speed bladed equipped 1.6m version.
