Seeing as yesterdays postings have been 'removed', can anyone update me on what, if anything, is happening, changing, or whatever with this forum, please.
We lost our electric last night and I'm chancing having the pc on with the electric board generator at the moment!

Michael, not knowing what you said yesterday, I'll repeat that the forum as it stands is far too basic for our needs/what we've become accustomed to.
I can change my nickname to one that already exists, (nevermind everytime I reply if I wished!) there's no way of knowing that a topic has been replied to, no way of following threads... etc, etc, etc. I know I'm repeating what was said yesterday.

Please tell us how things are going to be improved - at the moment it 'looks nice' but it's not 'user friendly' in any way.

IMHO
Sam.

Is OK folk!
I've given myself a promotion! ;-)

Michael, are things going to "improve" - they can't get any worse, surely?

Are you taking onboard the blatantly obvious reasons for our dissatisfaction?
Can you see how unworkable the forum is now.

We need to know - is it worth our while sticking around, while things are put right?
Or is this "it"?

You had a really good community spirit going on here (just as well you didn't change the forum when we were going through our time of SFP 'madness'!)

It's just impossible as things stand to keep the flow of communication and exchange going now - truely.

NB Interesting comments from "the other side" on 'The Black Sheep'!

<< June 8, 2005 It's for your own good MT: Well, at long last we're here on the new platform, and before everyone starts hurling abuse in our direction, try to remember that all the changes to the site have been done for a reason. In most cases we've tried to recreate or refine the functionality of the old version so that, effectively, no one is losing out. However, we've tried to balance that out with a cross-site streamlining which has cut out some of the deadwater areas of the site. And believe me, there were quite a few of those. The problem with a website is that nothing expires and, because of this, inevitably comes back to haunt you when you're trying to do the spring cleaning. Anyhow - the drill from here is - enjoy the site, don't be too harsh with us if somethings wrong or missing - it's new to us too, and if you find any bugs that we've overlooked - let us know Also, some positive feedback might make a pleasant change from all the FWi Forum slating we receive, so if you like the new site - let us know June 10, 2005 Wow! The new site's gone down well I must say. If you believe the forums - no one can use the site anymore, nothing works and no one's ever coming back. Still it's nice to know I've made a difference. >>

I believe postings on the forum count as "letting you know".
The rest of the FW site is fine, ...except the forum.

Regards,
Sam.

Strange you mention the "jobs".

When I looked yesterday (144 jobs) and searched for 'All' jobs in 'UK' there was only 1! Really!

Today (62 jobs) again only 1 in 'UK', 0 in Scotland, 0 in Ireland...

Search for 'All' jobs in 'All' UK gives 62! Strange!

NB. There's no Admin jobs anywhere. ;-(

I'll give it a try anyway!
I hope I can remember Ringo's instructions but they were deleted!

I didn't make it clear but "MT" in 'Black Sheep' is Michael Targett.

Well said. Even Defra are testing out their ELS Online before expecting us all to use it.
The inability to increase print size is certainly a strain on the eyes.

Scooby, et al.

I'm hoping Michael has the courtesy to respond to our questions even if it's just the "is this "IT", like it or lump it" one.

Michael can be contacted:

Very tidy, simple forum site, it's got everything ... that we had!

Maybe Michael can't find his way around the new forum, after all, how does he know when topics have been updated, etc!

Remember, as Michael said in Black Sheep
http://www.fwi.co.uk/StaticPages/blacksheep.htm
"Its for your own good"

An very good example of a General Farmimg Forum is http://www.farmingviews.co.uk/forum/

Bit quiet .... at the moment!
Its FAQ page is great for explaining hyperlinks into messages, etc
and 20 different smiley faces! [:0]

Check it out! [}:)]

Technically speaking, all you should do to make a topic appear at the top AGAIN, is reply to it.

Trouble is when your posting has been accepted and you've "been round the gas works" to get to the list of topics it 'appears as if you've made "not a 'alf pennies worth" of difference as the order of topics is the same as if you'd never bothered yourself to pass on your words of wisdom in the first place.

But one of the many the 'clever' bits about this forum now is ... it makes you feel unimportant, it makes it difficult to read the posts, it makes it awkward to contribute, you get paranoid about 'submitting' a post incase you've made a mistake you can't go back and correct, and then it makes it look as if you've tapped away on your keyboard for nowt!

Very Clever!

We must be the 'dead wood' Michael was saying he wanted rid of in Black Sheep.

Its a test of stamina, determination and bloody mindedness to post now.
It should be a pleasant experience, easy, ........... etc.

But it's not.

I just keep coming back because I like being 'bloody awkward'!

I've tried that with the original 'Scooby' but surprise, surprise, it's not gone to the top - yet!

Will it ever?

""The small font I can live with , either by a trip to spec savers or increasing the font size in the browser options.""

ETC - how?

Increasing the font size in your browser doesn't work!

Have you noticed the advert for Specsavers on the home page?
;-)

Good Morning Michael - we eagerly await your comments.

Wow!

I believe that this trivial redesign has some seriously big niggles that really should have been ironed out since the conversation last week with Michael, the administrator.

It would stimulate some positive debate if Michael could assure us ALL that they are working dammed hard to rectify the concerns.

Thank you Michael.

It is this reassurance that changes WILL be made, that means that I, for one will persevere with your current set up.

I hope that the improvements that you're making will bring the standard of the format of this Forum up to AT LEAST that of the old one.

The FWi site does not deserve a 'second rate' Forum.

I hope you will continue to keep us informed of these developments.

Kind regards.
