What sort of person springs to mind when you think of British farming and food? Is there someone you know whose face sums up all that’s best about it? Do you work with someone whose face embodies the best of the countryside? Or perhaps someone closer to home – your son, sister-in-law, husband, or even yourself?


If so, Farmers Weekly and British Food Fortnight want to hear from you because we’re offering one lucky person the unique opportunity to become the Face of British Food Fortnight 2011, a national celebration that runs from 17 September to 2 October.

The winner will receive a professional photo shoot and see their photo appear in Farmers Weekly. It will also appear on the Love British Food website and FWi, which get millions of page views.

Winning this coveted prize is also a chance to raise the profile of your business, do your bit for the farming and food industries – plus there’s a £200 cash prize on offer.

jilly cooperWe’ve even enlisted the help of a celebrity for the judging – romp writer and much-loved friend of the countryside Jilly Cooper.

The person we’re looking for might be male or female, old or young – just as long as their face has all the attributes that the public associate with our wonderful farming, food and countryside. It might convey qualities such as healthiness, tradition and heartiness. Wholesomeness, trustworthiness and reliability. Hard work, integrity and a bright future.

From toddlers to pensioners, we want to hear from you. So whether you’re a grandparent proud to be at the head of a big farming family, a youngster just embarking on your countryside career, or a bearded and bespectacled middle-aged man, take a couple of minutes to enter our competition.

Last year’s winner of this prestigious title was North Yorkshire egg producer James Potter (below).

“I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience of being the face of British Food Fortnight 2010,” says James. “It has been great fun to be involved with, culminating in a fantastic day at the unveiling ceremony in Westminster Cathedral.

“Commercially, the increased media exposure has had a very positive impact on the business with very little demand on my time. I would recommend the experience to anyone thinking of entering,” says James.

PR-to-the-stars, Max Clifford, who helped us pick the 2010 winner, described James as having “a face full of charm, integrity and which exudes the outdoor life – a wonderful combination made even better by a huge smile.

“He’s got a face that both men and women will relate to in a positive way… and behind the face, I understand there is a progressive businessman who’s passionate about what he does and who loves the countryside,” said Max.
