Travellers at Dale Farm in Essex have lost their High Court battle to halt their eviction.

Residents at the UK’s largest travellers’ site had tried to stop the process with three applications for judicial review.
But at a hearing on Wednesday (12 October) Mr Justice Ouseley refused all three.
He said it was astonishing that residents delayed in their legal bid to almost the day of eviction.
Residents of the site – who have been fighting eviction for the past decade – can appeal against the latest court ruling.

The site is on green belt land and houses about 400 people on 49 illegal pitches.
Basildon council brought in bailiffs to clear the site in September but was forced to stop the process when lawyers obtained a High Court injunction.

The Court of Appeal previously ruled against the travellers on a human rights application in 2009.
