Farmers Weekly is launching a new blog which gives you an insight into the world of the 2009 FW Farmer of the Year Nick Padwick.
Called Nick Padwick’s Video Blog the aim is to bring you short videos which showcase Nick’s work as farm manager at The Co-operative’s Stoughton Estate in Leicestershire.
Nick, who won the Farmer of the Year title in October 2009, is a Hampshire farmer’s son who joined The Co-operative Farms in 1988 as a craftsman.
He quickly progressed to arable foreman and then assistant manager on a mixed dairy unit. In 2001, he was asked to manage one of the Co-op’s biggest arable estates.
Nick pioneered classroom visits to Stoughton, planting a “four-acre allotment” to grow a range of crops for visiting children.
The project has been so successful that it has been rolled out on seven other Co-op farms as the “From Farm to Fork” campaign, which links the Co-op’s retail business to farming.
Watch some of Nick’s videos on his blog and leave your comments and questions using the comment facility which is under every post.
