Gordon Ramsey declares war on out-of-season produce

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey has said restaurants should be fined if they serve out-of-season produce to customers.

In an interview with the BBC, the Michelin-starred chef said that it was fundamentally important that restaurants served locally-grown food.

He also indicated that he has spoken to Prime Minister Gordon Brown about getting out-of-season food outlawed.

“Fruit and veg should be seasonal,” he told the BBC. “Chefs should be fined if they haven’t got ingredients in season on their menu.

“I don’t want to see asparagus on in the middle of December. I don’t want to see strawberries from Kenya in the middle of March. I want to see it home grown.”

Do you agree with Gordon’s stance? How do you think consumers would react?
