Hundreds of visitors to the Royal Highland Show have signed up to support NFU Scotland’s “What’s On Your Plate?” campaign to promote home-produced food.
The union has distributed thousands of leaflets highlighting the quality of Scottish food and has received pledges of support from Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) representing every Scottish political party.
“The momentum behind the campaign is building day-by-day,” said NFUS president, Jim McLaren. “The support of MSPs of all party colours is important political recognition that local food and farming can deliver huge benefits to the whole nation.”
Mr McLaren said the campaign aimed to drive home to the public the benefits to the Scottish economy, climate change, protecting the countryside and supporting family businesses by selecting quality home-grown food produced to the highest standards.
