A new booklet underlining the importance of the farming industry in Wales has been launched by NFU Cymru at the Royal Welsh Show.

‘Why Farming Matters to Wales’ is a 12-page bilingual booklet which includes a wealth of information, facts and figures on the value of agriculture to the Welsh countryside, economy, rural life and to production.

The booklet has been prepared by NFU Cymru as part of the NFU’s nationwide ‘Why Farming Matters’ initiative, which aims to raise awareness of the contribution made by agriculture to life as we know it.

NFU Cymru President Dai Davies said, “Throughout the centuries, Wales has been dependent on its agricultural industry. In recent years there has been a tendency to play down the importance of farming – especially of the industry’s core business of food production.

“But today farming is no less important. It is clear that a healthy, vibrant rural economy; a thriving tourism sector; a profitable agri-food sector; and our culture and heritage are all completely dependent on a profitable and sustainable farming industry.

“This leaflet summarises what farming offers to the quality and security of Britain’s food supplies, the economy, environment and rural life and most importantly highlights why farming matters to Wales.”
