Open Farm Sunday opens for business

Organisers are hoping that record numbers turn out for today’s Open Farm Sunday, to beat last year’s total of 184,000 visitors.

Since it started six years ago, Open Farm Sunday events have been responsible for bringing more than three-quarters of a million visitors onto British farms. A bumper turnout this year could push that number over one million.

Around 400 farmers from every corner of the country are opening their gates to the public for the LEAF-organised event, supported by an army of volunteers, including vets, agronomists, seed reps, sales managers, friends, family and neighbours.

Some hosts invited a handful of locals to experience life on the farm, while others are expecting to see visitor numbers run into the thousands over the course of the day.”Open Farm Sunday is one of agriculture’s biggest success stories,” said LEAF’s Tom Allen-Stevens. “Once again there has been a huge amount of effort behind the scenes to make this event happen, and we hope all the hosts, volunteers and visitors have a fantastic day.”
