Farmers and industry leaders helped make the 2013 Farmers Weekly Awards, at the Grosvenor House hotel, in London another spectacular evening.

VIPs included DEFRA secretary Owen Paterson and JLS popstar Jonathan ‘JB’ Gill, who has his own small farm.

18 awards were handed out with Robert Newborough being announced as Farmer of the Year and Lord Henry Plumb receiving the Lifetime Achievement award.

The evening, hosted by BBC announcer, Kate Silverton, was James Bond inspired, with a ‘fake stake’ casino and Bond quiz following a champagne reception and dinner. The casino winner was given an iPad mini as a prize and the Bond quiz winners got a magnum of champagne for their table.

Guest John Godfrey, chairman of the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB), said: “The award ceremony certainly shows that in Britain we have some forward-thinking, innovative farmers.

“It is an excellent opportunity to talk (and) network with most of the leading figures in the agricultural industry.”
