Women called to save stone heritage
Bill Cowling, the new president of the Yorkshire Drystone Walling Guild, is calling on more women to get involved with the craft. Bill aims to have a team of women who will do walling demonstrations at agricultural events this summer, including the Great Yorkshire Show, to highlight the fact that it can be done by all. “Dry stone walls are an important part of our heritage, both nationally and particularly here in Yorkshire,” says Bill (centre), seen with master waller John Clifton and horticultural lecturer Anna Bryer.
