Chicken sunglasses?

So for a change here’s a strange story out of The Metro about a charity worker who found, get this, chicken sunglasses on an allotment she was working on.

According to the website of The National Band and Tag company from Newport, Kentucky the glasses were manufactured from the 1930s onwards to reduce feather pecking.

The concept was that filters in the lenses made everything red rendering the birds unable to distinguish blood on fellow birds and so therefore reducing instances of feather pecking.

They are no longer produced and are a collectors item. The glasses the worker found in the allotment are now being kept in the British Optical Association Museum in London.
