Smiths Gore’s Sam Tydeman is hoping to take advantage of recent milk price rises when he launches a 350-acre Yorkshire dairy farm next week.

Priory Farm at Stillington, 12 miles north of York, comes with a traditional, four-bed farmhouse and is being sold by the Church Commissioners following the retirement of the tenants.

Mr Tydeman said it would probably be bought by a commercial dairy farm and has included 2.5m litres of milk quota in the £1.9m guide price. “I wanted to make it attractive to the decent farmer.

“This area north of York is extremely popular with residential buyers but it is also fantastic farming country.

“The owners were gearing up to milk 300 cows, but now it’s empty and raring to go. The rumour mill seems to be working and we’ve already had some farmers ring up.”
