Campaign for the Farm Environment

The long awaited Campaign for the Farmed Environment was launched on Thursday November 5.

The campaign aims to encourage and inspire farmers and land managers to adopt or continue management practices that increase or retain the environmental benefits provided by their farmland.

It is hoped that by taking the measures voluntarily farmers will be able to avoid the very real chance that compulsory replacement set-aside in England will become a reality.

Launched by NFU president Peter Kendall, DEFRA secretary Hilary Benn and Country Land and Business Association’s Henry Aubrey-Fletcher, the campaign has already won the support of a host of other organisations including the RSPB, Natural England and the Environment Agency.

Campaign’s aims:
- Double in-field Entry Level Stewardship options to 40,000ha
- Retain 179,000ha of uncropped land
- Increase environmental management by 30,000ha
