Farm facts | DINAS ISLAND FARM, near Newport, Pembrokeshire

Part-owned, part-rented livestock operation run by Neil Perkins, his father Roger and wife Lynda.
The family have been National Trust tenants since 1987. About 242ha (600 acres) lie within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. About 162ha (400 acres) are productive grazing with 81ha (200 acres), including some sensitive cliff land, managed environmentally. The family owns another 73ha (180 acres) on two other holdings.
Grassland is sown with Italian Ryegrass and oversown at 12 months with high-sugar grasses, clover and chicory.
1,600 mostly Lleyn ewes and 300 ewe lambs account for about 60% of the business. Ewes are lambed in three blocks from March to April.
Dairy heifers are reared on contract for a nearby dairy herd. 200 spring-born heifer calves and 100 calves from the autumn block arrive at seven days old.
The farm is in the Tir Gofal environmental scheme.
