Record cattle trade at Frome Market
The best
All grades were in demand and many more would have sold to advantage, report the auctioneers, Premier Livestock.
The best suckler bred steers met a cracking trade. Among the 48 UTH steers on offer, good quality crossbred steers were in strong demand, selling to 196p/kg from G and D Wyatt.
Plenty of stock sold in advance of 185p/kg, with Aberdeen Angus particularly keenly sought with smart animals to 186p/kg (ÂŁ1,195) from D F Luff. Friesians also attracted keen interest to 168.50p/kg (ÂŁ1290) from V E J and C J Baker. One MRI bull went for 195.5p/kg from R T J Voizey and Partners.

These excellent types created a strong average of 207.79p/kg. Good British Blues achieved ÂŁ1,293 from K G and S M Vincent.
Crossbred heifers found a good trade with Aberdeen Angus to 174p/kg, again from V E J and C J Baker and ÂŁ1,092 from J D and J S Padfield. Herefords sold to 176p/kg (ÂŁ1,110) from V E J and C J Baker.
More records were smashed among the large entry of barren cows and bulls up for grabs, with the auctioneers reporting records being smashed week on week.
All cows averaged 133.32p/kg and ÂŁ878 with 42 Cows sold in advance of ÂŁ1,000 – a market record.
There were 77 dairy cows forward with the best heavy Friesian meat cows peaking at 144p/kg from Winfrith Fields Farm. Top headage was at ÂŁ1,223 from R E and D Woodward. A further 14 sold over ÂŁ1,000 and eight over 140p/kg.
