Dugdale Gisburn sale heifer champion makes £2,250

 

Dugdale Gisburn 03-05-2012 heifer 2 web.jpgA pedigree heifer from the Smellows herd of Jeremy Taylor, Broughton, Skipton, received the championship title and top price of the dairy sale at Gisburn Mart yesterday.

The newly calved animal sold for £2,250 to E Roper and Sons, Thornley, Longridge. Mr Taylor also collected the Tom Southwell Memorial Trophy for his win – a special award for the newly calved champion at the May sale which he will keep for 12 months.

In-calf honours went to Robert Moran of Nappa who also took home the J H Howard Memorial rose bowl trophy which he  will also keep for 12 months. His champion went at £1,860 to J Shuttleworth and Son of Skipton.

Averages: Newly calved heifers, £1,797; in-calf heifers, £1,514; and heifer calves, £1,416 (Richard Turner and Son.)
