Grand breeding sale sees yearling ewes average £143.33

McCartneys auctioneers reported an entry of 3,054 breeding sheep at Knighton Market’s first grand multi breed sale of breeding ewes, rams and ewe lambs with a pleasing start to the autumn sale season.

Yearling ewes sold well with an overall average of £143.33 a head and selling to £175 a head for the champion pen of Welsh Mule ewes from A T Bennett and Son, Bronrevel. Also to £170 a head for Welsh Mule yearling ewes from both G H Lloyd and Co, Upper Buckton and A T Bennett and Son, Bronrevel.

Welsh Mule yearlings reached £168 a head from both E R Jones, Dolagored Fach and J L Jones and Partners, Llanrhys. A bid of £166 a head was also realised for Welsh Mule yearling ewes from G H Lloyd and Co, Upper Buckton.

White Faced Welsh Muke ewes reached £163 a head from A T Bennett and Son, Bronrevel.

Ewe lambs averaged £79.30 a head and sold to £145 a head for purebred Texel ewe lambs from J P L Owens, Aberceithon. Also to £115 a head for purebred Texel ewe lambs again from J P L Owens, Aberceithon. Welsh Mule ewe lambs sold to £86 a head from T V Price, Little Vaynor.

Breeding rams sold to 350gns for a purebred Charollais ram from T Richards, Old Hall. Also to 280gns for Texel rams from J P Breeze and Son, Fronladies.
